Any true Juggalo knows that the only soda that matters is the ghetto
pop known as Faygo. ICP grew up drinking Faygo. It's a pop which is
also called the poor mans pop, ghetto pop, etc..because its cheap as hell. At concerts ICP has these big guns that spray out
Faygo. It is almost impossible at an ICP concert not to get sprayed. ICP raps about Faygo on "Southwest
Voodoo", "Just Like That", "I Want My Shit", "My Kind of Bitch", and on other various songs. Faygo
is available all over the U.S.
There has been quite a bit of debate as to exactly when and why ICP started spraying Faygo at concerts. In Mutilation Mix's "The History of ICP..Or Is It?", it says 7/2/93 at a concert in
Detroit, Violent J and Shaggy performed a synchronized dance called a La Hammer. Realizing how wack they looked the two started
spraying Faygo all over each other instead. The crowd loved it and thus began the "Faygo
Frenzy".
In Jelly Nut's "Alone With Violent J" interview J talked about Faygo,
"At the time, Run DMC always talked about Adidas and the Beastie Boys Would mention White Castle Hamburgers in their songs.
So we started mentioning Faygo cause we always had some and it was our own little trademark for
our crew. This was the opening line to the song.."We're the JJ boys on the microphone stand, and we're kickin' it live with
Faygo in our hand".
"The Faygo was always there. We just drink a lot of it cause its
crazy cheap and they have hundreds of crazy ass flavors. My tag name was Faygo Joe cause I always
drank that shit.
In the book "Behind The Paint" by Violent J, this explanation is given:
"We've been known to bullshit the press and lie our asses off just to try and say funny or
whatever. Yo, here it goes, the absolute truth about how the Faygo thing got started..during
the show, we had a table set up behind us in the middle of the stage. On the table was a giant round bucket full of Faygo 2 liters. The day of the show we decided to have it there so the fans could see it. We always mentioned
it in our songs so we thought it would be cool if the fans saw us swiggin' off it on stage, nothing more, nothing less.
Thats the truth.
During the show, about 20 minutes into it, the shit died down, and we were just rappin' and
rappin'. We were kinda boring, I felt. Then it happened, I seen this kid standing in the dead center of the crowd standing
there with both his arms raised flipping me off.
That hurt.
I was steady thinking, what makes this kid think that just because hes in the crowd, and I'm
on the stage that he can get away with flippin' me off ?
The truth was I was winded and tired enough as it was. I just walked back and unscrewed a 2
liter of Faygo and whipped it right at his ass. The place straight up fuckin' erupted, though.
The loudest pop of the night. Then Joey threw one off at the crowd in the kids direction. Much to our suprise, pop started
flying back at us from the crowd. I didn't know if the people hated us or loved us".
